Community engagement

Connecting with communities through mutually beneficial partnerships

Central to ASU’s charter is assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves. This responsibility includes the communities locally, across the state, nation and world. To achieve this bold mission, ASU partners with diverse communities in mutually beneficial ways. ASU’s approach to social embeddedness is deeply rooted in its place as a vital anchor institution in the local community and beyond.

Partnering with communities in equitable and trusted ways:

01

Diversifying health research

02

Conducting research of public value and interest

03

Developing place-based solutions to pressing problems

04

Promoting overall sustainable, well-being-focused societies

Our commitment

The School of Technology for Public Health acknowledges and honors the unique knowledge, culture, histories and geographies that collectively shape the research questions communities are drawn to, as well as their preferences for how to engage in knowledge production and communicate research findings.

We believe communities should be engaged in every phase of research, from codeveloping research questions and codesigning research studies, to communicating and publishing findings, and implementing solutions.

To do this, we are committed to meeting communities where they are at by bringing research capabilities to settings where communities gather and feel safe, and welcoming communities into our research spaces in the Phoenix Bioscience Core and beyond.
